Viola Rühse

Viola Rühse is an art historian who also works as Head of the Centre for Image Science and Course Director at the University of Continuing Education Krems in Austria. She studied the history of art and German language and literature at the universities of Hamburg and Vienna, where she developed a profound passion for visual storytelling and cultural narratives. Following her studies, she further honed her expertise by engaging with significant art collections and collaborating with esteemed professionals in the field. She received her PhD for a dissertation on Siegfried Kracauer’s film writings, which delved deeply into the intricate relationship between cinema and society. In addition to film theory, her current main research themes encompass a broad spectrum of topics, including photography, modern and contemporary art, and critical theory. Viola's approach to art history is analytical yet innovative, combining scholarly rigour with creative exploration.

As a photo-artist, Viola has been exhibited in many renowned cities around the world, including Paris, Hamburg, Oxford, Vienna, Berlin, Miami, New York, London, Venice, Los Angeles, and many other notable cities that cannot be overlooked.

Over the years, Viola has contributed to numerous exhibitions exploring the intersection of visual culture and society, examining how art can reflect and challenge our perspectives, as well as shape and influence our understanding of the world. As a curator working on the current project, kunstschaufenster, she focuses on fostering dialogues between artists and audiences, ensuring that art remains accessible and thought-provoking for all. Her commitment to education and scholarship extends beyond her current role, as she often participates as a speaker and panellist in various international conferences, sharing her insights on art, culture, and the evolving landscape of visual media.
