Sofia del Rivero
Sofia del Rivero is drawn to the quiet power of a woman's ability to evolve and adapt to her inherited path through self-awareness. As a Hispanic woman shaped by generations of strong matriarchs, her perception of strength was profoundly altered when she lost her beloved mother and then became a mother herself. The journey of motherhood has taught her invaluable lessons about resilience and determination. Although she was raised to perpetuate patterns, she now honours the incredible courage it takes to break free from them. Her large-scale, vibrant portraits of women are filled with rich symbolism, celebrating the timeless gift of feminine introspection and resilience. She incorporates weaving and embroidery to reflect her Mexican heritage and to symbolise the colourful threads of identity that we can choose to continue or unravel. Each of Sofía del Rivero's brushstrokes speaks to the stories within us, highlighting not only personal journeys, but also the collective experiences that unite women across cultures. Through her artistic lens, Sofía del Rivero explores themes of identity and belonging, as well as the transformative nature of art. This makes her work not only visually stunning, but also deeply resonant for those who experience it.
Sofia works and lives in her hometown of Miami, Florida, with her husband and daughter. She ran her own art school, Art Box, from 2014 to 2024 which specialised in creative workshops for children. Her passion for fostering creativity in the younger generation has enriched her life and brought joy to many children in the community. Engaging young minds and nurturing their artistic talents has been a source of immense fulfilment for Sofia. She now works full-time as an artist, exhibiting her work at events such as the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, the Beaux Arts Festival, the Riviera Country Club Art Show, Las Olas, Superfine!, and Miami Art Week. Throughout these exhibitions, she interacts with viewers, sharing her artistic process and the stories behind her creations. This helps her to forge connections that elevate the role of art in society. Through her work, she aims to inspire others to embrace their individuality and the diverse heritage that shapes us all, instilling in them a sense of pride and empowerment in their own unique narratives.
