Mireille Derbré

Mireille Derbré is a Paris-born artist whose work is deeply influenced by her extensive artistic training and the rich artistic heritage of her surroundings. Her artistic journey began in childhood, when she spent time in the intimate studio of her father, the renowned sculptor Louis Derbré. She pursued further knowledge and skills at the École Supérieure d'Art et de Technique in Boulogne-Billancourt, specializing in decoration, where she honed her ability to combine colour and form. This comprehensive background has enabled her to participate in several major art projects across Paris, thereby solidifying her reputation as a talented artist. Since 1998, she has held numerous exhibitions in several Parisian galleries and salons, particularly in her Marais district studio, where she often collaborates with models to bring her artistic visions to life. In 2010, in search of new inspiration, she relocated to the beautiful coastal town of Biarritz in southwestern France, where she continues to paint with unyielding passion, finding solace in the stunning landscapes that surround her and allowing the environment to inspire her creative process.

Mireille Derbré practises an expressive style of painting that is intricately guided by the dynamic interplay of colour and movement. This style conveys a complex femininity that resonates with viewers on many levels. Her artistic approach draws inspiration from the early Expressionists, in that it boldly blends reality and imagination, often inviting deep contemplation and emotional engagement. She favours an energetic style of painting in which the drawings and pictorial traces evoke the gestures of a sculptor, creating a mesmerising translation of space onto the canvas that captivates audiences and encourages them to engage with the artwork on both aesthetic and emotional planes. Through her vivid portraits and scenes depicting everyday life, she conveys genuine emotion, often drawing inspiration from the dramas of daily existence to create a powerful connection with the viewer. Her remarkable works have been exhibited and in private collection in several countries around the globe, including Europe, China, and the United States, where they are regarded by collectors and art enthusiasts alike, often sparking dialogues about the nature of art and emotion, as well as the role of the artist in society. Each piece she creates offers a window into her world, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences and the shared human condition.
