Frédéric Duarte+Karim Rahman

Frédéric Duarte is a framing specialist who has undergone extensive training in ceramics. After experimenting with various techniques, he turned to modelling, immersing himself in the intricacies of clay and its transformative properties. Inspired by his time in Bizen, Japan, he remembers the artisanal spirit that permeates the area, where everything is created, capturing the essence of tradition and craftsmanship. He primarily uses the coil method, which allows him to express his creativity and individuality in his work.

In recent years, Frédéric has devoted himself to producing decorative objects, including vases, boxes, and small pieces of furniture. His work often strikes a balance between functionality and artistic expression, with each piece meticulously crafted to embody beauty and utility. He finds joy in exploring different forms and textures, often experimenting with glazes that enhance the natural qualities of the clay.

Karim Rahman is a make-up artist who is renowned for his artistic flair and innovative techniques. His passion for creativity transcends traditional boundaries, enabling him to combine art and aesthetics in a captivating way. He discovered his passion as soon as he first came into contact with clay. Fascinated by the idea of creating a piece that would stand the test of time, he realised that art could be both ephemeral and eternal. The idea of creating a concrete object, shaped by hand from soft clay and transformed into a solid piece through firing, thrilled him! He was eager to learn all the techniques, such as throwing, pinching, coiling, different types of firing, glazing and decoration. His enthusiasm has driven him to meticulously master each method, enabling him to craft beautiful objects and imbue them with personal significance and emotion. Karim enjoys sharing his knowledge and insights with fellow artisans, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.

Karim has dedicated himself to creating tableware and decorative items, including vases, centrepieces, boxes and small furniture pieces. Each piece reflects his unique artistic vision and commitment to quality, making them highly sought after. He strives to push the boundaries of conventional tableware, creating pieces that are stunning works of art and functional pieces.

Duarte+Rahman is a duo composed of two artistically inclined ceramists who share a ceramics workshop in Murs, a small village in the Luberon, France. Their studio is a sanctuary of creativity where ideas are born, explored and transformed into tangible works of art. They often collaborate on projects, combining their distinct styles and expertise to create unique pieces that enrich the local and international art scene with their innovative spirit and dedication to craftsmanship.
