Interview with Bogdan Trybel
---------------------------------------
16mag: Bonjour Bogdan, Thank you for inviting us to your Paris studio. It's a beautiful day to be here. Could you tell us about yourself, your journey as an artist and the type of art you create? How long have you been based in Paris? Why did you choose Paris?
Bonjour, Thank you for coming and it was so nice having you at my studio today! I'm a "young artist" (an emerging artist) and a painter, but I see it more as a pastime or a hobby than a calling. I do abstract painting because it reflects my state of mind. I’ve lived in Paris for a long time, but why did I choose Paris? I chose it on a whim, attracted by its charm and energy. When it comes to art, Paris is a city with many opportunities. Its museums, diversity, inspiring people and creative atmosphere make it simply perfect!
16mag: Could you talk about your cultural background and explain how it influences your work?
This is a profound question, and one that I have never thought about. I came from Poland to France in my twenties to start a new life, and meeting many people here has influenced both my professional life and my art. As you can see, my abstract paintings are colourful and somewhat paradoxical, but they reflect my sad moments. This is how I express myself on canvas.
16mag: How long have you been painting? How often do you come & work in the studio? What are you working on at the moment?
I have been painting on the walls of my apartment in the 16th arrondissement since 2004, and sometimes I draw as well. Now, I can come to this studio every day or every fortnight, depending on my need to express myself or release my emotions. Sometimes it's like going to the psychologist for therapy. At the moment, I am working on expanding my colour palette as I tend to use blue and red most often.
16mag: Who are your artistic influences?
I admire Van Gogh, who inspired me as an artist, as well as Strindberg, whose art I recognise more in myself. But also Matisse and Turner.

16mag: What kind of connection do you hope the viewer will form with your paintings, and what is your own vision for this connection?
I want people to look inside the painting and try to feel what I felt when creating it, and to immerse themselves in the artwork, allowing their imagination to wander and generate their own unique story. Each person has their own eyes, distinct way of perceiving the world and holding different perspectives, which is why I intentionally refrain from providing titles for my paintings during exhibitions. I find immense joy in observing people as they engage with my art, taking the time to explore its depths and nuances, and offering their own interpretations and appreciation of the work. The beauty of art lies in its ability to resonate with individuals in varied ways, sparking personal reflections and connections that enrich the overall experience.
16mag: We still have many questions to ask you and our last question for you is what are your long-term future goals ?
Already? ⌈laughs⌉ It's quite amusing how time flies, isn't it? Please save those questions for next time, there are still so many aspects of this journey to explore here ⌈smile⌉.
As an artist, it's always nice to be recognised for my work and the passion I pour into it. But, to be honest, I don't deliberately seek recognition. However, the idea of achieving recognition one day is indeed lovely! Who knows what the future holds? Every day brings new opportunities and endless possibilities.
Thank you so much for this conversation, I really appreciate it!
16mag: Thank you for your time, the nice conversation, and the tea and chocolate.🙂
